WAAW foundation STEM scholarship for African women is a U.S. based non-profit organization established in various African countries to enable students to pursue their studies in a STEM-related courses.  we are committed to seeing young African women excel and achieve their dreams and with this scholarship you are free to focus on your goal and volunteer to give back to your community and promote the engagement of women in STEM through the STEM Outreach Chapter at their university. 

 WAAW Foundation offers scholarships, mentorships, training, and other impact programs for both students and teachers in STEM to help students with the right tools to succeed and help further their education and understanding. WAAW Foundation has awarded more than 91 African girls pursuing STEM studies across various public institutions of higher learning and remains committed to supporting even more young women in their academic pursuits.

Available courses offered/covered by the WAAW undergraduate scholarship:

  • Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM)-related courses.
  • All fields of Engineering.
  • Computer science.
  • Industrial chemistry
  • environmental sciences
  • Agriculture, 
  • Geography, 
  • zoology, 
  •  Statistics
  • Medical courses (Pharmacy/BioMedical, Biochemistry).

NOTE: NO CORE MEDICAL COURSE like Medicine and Surgery, Nursing, Optometry.



Ineligible Courses for the WAAW undergraduate scholarship:

  • Core medical courses (Medicine and Surgery, Nursing, Optometry).
  • Non-STEM focused courses (Mass communication, Social Sciences, Accounting, Business administration, Economics).
  • Diploma, polytechnic, and graduate programs.

NOTE:  WAAW does not fund diploma, polytechnic, and graduate (masters, MBA, or phd) programs, second or subsequent degrees, students older than 32 years, or non-STEM focused courses.



Benefits of WAAW Undergraduate Scholarship:

  • Successful candidate receive an award of $500 equivalent in their country's local currency for the 2024 academic year.
  • Successful candidate get access to a mentorship program provided by the programme in order to guide and support their academic and professional journey 
  • Successful candidate gets the Opportunities to connect with like-minded peers, professionals, and industry leaders.



Eligibility criteria for WAAW Undergraduate Scholarship:

  • Candidate must be a female students of any African country and must be living in his/her country.
  • Candidate must have gained admission to a university or college program in a STEM or STEM-related field.
  • Candidate must be in their second year (for a four-year course) or third year (for a five-year course) in an accredited university or college.
  • Candidate must demonstrate excellent academic record and financial need.
  • Candidate must have special consideration is given to underprivileged students, such as orphans or girls impacted by HIV.



Application Process for WAAW undergraduate scholarship programme: 

Stage 1:Fill out the online application form between September 04, 2023, and the deadline.


Stage 2: (For shortlisted candidates)

1. Submit two letters of recommendation.

2. Participate in a Zoom interview.

3. Submit recent academic transcripts.


Stage 3:(For successful candidates)

1. Submit relevant documentation.

  4. Maximum of 200 word essay on "Tell Us About Your Need Or Personal/Family/Financial Situation And How The Funds From The WAAW Scholarship Will Assist Your Education And /Or Career Plans"

We do not fund graduate (Masters, MBA, or Ph.D.) programs, second or subsequent degrees.


How many references are required?

2 references. One MUST be written by a professor from your institution of study and the other from an academic supervisor/advisor or mentor to be emailed by your referee to us.
